I tried calling my brother on his cell phone yesterday.
We've been tagging voice mails for a few days now.
He answered but asked to call me back as he was
at MOCA looking at this:
And this:

I went to the Bummer Life today and Stevil has a link
to Post Secret where I found this:
Incidentally, I gave my brother the PS book this xmas.

I really like my digital camera but these cats know how to use theirs.
Good. Shit. Thanks to Uncle Tim for the link.
For those of you like myself that missed the recent premiere
from the good fellas at PRESTIGE skates and Colin Clark.  Jeah.

Gaborik is back on the ice after a 27 game absence,
just in time as Owen (Liam) Nolan went on injured reserve tonite.
I was in the stands in St. Paul for his first NHL hat trick back in 2001.
Fuck yeah.

December 16, 2008

Well, I guess our winter has really arrived. Yesterday on the bike was like navigating some cold and car-filled moonscape. Downtown is in pretty good shape but getting there or rolling around the outlying portions is horrible. I read on The Light of the World how A23 is having a similar experience in Portland (+ super gnarly winds), he mentioned he was thinking of me riding in MPLS for a living. I'm older and softer now and can hardly imagine enduring those conditions for the eternity that is the Midwestern Winter. After currently shivering sideways through the slush and dirt-snow I decided to compare today's weather conditions for the two cities (thinking "I'm still pretty tough, it's gotta be as bad as Minny out here") December 16, 2008:
Boise, ID= Mostly Sunny 24 Degrees
Minneapolis, MN= Snow 5 Degrees.
Okay, maybe not AS bad. Alright, I'm not kidding anyone, am I? Messengering in 22 degree weather in MPLS is like a fucking heat wave! Even though I'm so old and wimpy that my complaints are the only thing keeping me warm, mopin' around in this crap ain't no cake walk either. Wah.

Friday night.

Caught Warren practicing his Blue Steel.

...speaking of Blue Steel!

Our poor little bathroom. The wrench is there to turn off the hot water and the toilet is chipped and ugly from daily usage since the house was built in the 50's. The matches are from the Zeitgeist Bar in San Francisco and a friend's tattoo shop, the book is from the library. Not sure why my toothbrush is on the floor.

Northstar delivers around 3,200 papers every Wednesday for the Boise Weekly.

More MPLS

1). Hum's Liquor store is a few blocks down Lyndale Avenue from where I lived for a few years before moving across the river to "Nordeast". They deliver which is a godsend given the weird hours of availability for alcohol in Minnesota. The Replacements were photographed in front of that same wall, too. Cool.
2). Hennepin bridge with the biggest beer sign in town.
3). Take that bridge from downtown across the Mississippi to Nye's Polanaise Room. Voted best bar in America by Esquire- the place is incredible. It's two bars actually, the smaller one is at the corner entrance and on weekend night's you can watch these guys:

Here's to the Middle West!

December 4, 2008

Our son just turned three months old this week. After recovering from the initial shock of realization that time does indeed fly, we chose to move the lil guy from his bassinet in our bedroom to his crib in his own room. Junior seemed nonplussed by the entire transition while Mom and I fretted through that first night, the walkie-talkie baby monitor action is something I'll have to get used to. Not sure if it allows me to rest assured knowing I'll hear the mayhem when it starts or if it just furthers the level of paranoia I'm already experiencing. The faucet in the bathtub has been leaking a small but steady drip lately and through the muffled sounds of the monitor I sometimes have trouble differentiating the drops from the newborn's noisy nuances.
That and the cat is typically fucking annoying.
Nocturnal animals+baby boy+dual channel minimal interference baby monitor+sleep deprivation= shitloads of coffee. And I'm still tired.
